Storyline
A story about unrequited love - the shapes it takes, the ways it changes us and the exhilarating and often heartbreaking ride it takes us on. It is the journey of three characters, Ayan, Alizeh and Saba, as their lives intertwine and they navigate life, love and heartbreak.
Movie Review
Firstly, Happy Diwali to everybody
I've always been a KJo fan ever since Kuch Kuch Hota Hai from his direction till the music but this movie didn't match my expectations that I had for him.
When I heard Ranbir Kapoor was gonna be the one of the male leading actors, I felt that maybe Kjo made a bad decision but this man is just getting better and better and performed eccentrically well in his part as Ayan. Anushks Sharma is almost on the top of the mountain. She performed exceeding;y phenomenal in her respective role as Alizeh. Aishwarya Rai on the other hand was the biggest weakling that caught my eye. She has potential of becoming a better actress but her role as Saba just didn't fit the elements that were integral to the script. At this time around, I felt like she signed up for this film but just to earn a bread winning buck. I know it was a pain in the ass after all these MNS threats, but Fawad Khan as Ali's just an appearance of one hour but still was decent in his pivotal role. Shahrukh Khan's appearance did keep me engaged although was just there for at least some period of time
This is typically what's going on in Karan Johar films, 1) Lacking Narratives 2) Casting someone who was criticized before in previous films
He has good taste in direction, music, sometimes performances, and editing but doesn't have a good taste in scripts. This time he copied some elements from his previous films to make it a little different.
The film did make me chuckle at times because of the good jokes that were served in the film. But the dialogues written by Niranjan Iyengar were quite cheesy and did fall out of place especially when they were delivered by Ash such as "Mujhse aisi Pehli Mohabbat, Mere Mehboob Na Maange".
The music for me was the best thing about the film. Pritam Chakraborty deserves a bow for this. Channa Meraya and the Breakup Song are amazing melodious soundtracks which I have been listening to on a loop. Even Bulleya and the title song were also great and evocative but the Cutipie song is a one time listen.
The direction and cinematography was kept tight throughout the film and the editing was kept crisp. Thanks Anil Mehta and Manik Dawar for putting the execution in good hands for this movie.
Overall, this movie was good but apart from the disappointing screeenplay and the below average acting by Aishwarya Rai makes Ae Dil Hai Mushkil worth a one-time-watch but definitely a cinema type movie.
